Campaign Details

Please reach us at bees@thecolony.org.au if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A direct action campaign to improve the genetic resilience of wild and native bee species across the Northern Rivers / Byron Bay. Pollinate Country bridges the cultural importance of local ecological health with community well-being.

The campaign addresses the need of wild bees to live freely and reproduce naturally by increasing the available number of wild cavity sites across a diversified location.

By connecting with bees and country, Bee Guardians will develop strong environmental stewardship practices that will enhance biodiversity and bio-cultural heritage for future generations.

  1. It distributes 189 wild cavity sites to promote natural reproduction and genetic resilience of bees through swarming.
  2. Plants 3 native flowering plants per Bee Sanctuary contributing 567 trees to regenerate biodiversity and nurture pollinators.
  3. It cultivates knowledge and awareness of the 1,700 native bee species through an educational program focused on pollinator conservation for schools, families and community groups.
  4. It builds awareness of the effect of pesticide use and increases the total chemical-free habitat for pollinators to nest and feed.

A healthy space for Bee Guardians to observe, protect and cultivate pollinators. Each Bee Sanctuary creates a minimum of 3m2 area located on a chemical-free land that includes a nesting box or a log for bees, 3 native flowering trees and bee-friendly plants.

You can get involved as:

  • a Bee Guardian, learning from the bees
  • a Bee  Sanctuary, hosting a wild cavity site on your property
  • a Bee Conservation Partner, hosting a wild cavity site on your property, sponsoring wild cavity sites or our gathering events. Please contact us for more details about partnerships

It's not necessary. We will share with you all you need to know and support you along your journey with the hive.

We work and connect with both as we aim for biodiversity. Having both in your property will enhance your ecosystem and create stronger genetics.

We also recommend and educate about the essential role of solitary bees.

The Colony Bees Association is registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC)
